College to grant credits for company-sponsored learning
MADISON, Wis. (Feb. 13, 2015)—Officials from Madison College (http://madisoncollege.edu/) and Cleary Building Corp. (http://clearybuilding.com/) signed an agreement on Feb. 12 that will allow employees of the Verona, Wis.-based construction company who have completed coursework through its Steel Wood University to receive credits from Madison College.
Under the provisions of the “Corporate-to-College” program, those credits can be applied toward the fulfillment of requirements for certain associate of science degree programs at the college including Business Management, Marketing and Supervisory Management. Credits also can be used to meet the requirements needed to earn a technical diploma in Small Business Entrepreneurship, as well as the Sales Academy Certificate.
Bryan Woodhouse, dean of Madison College’s School of Business and Applied Arts, says the collaboration affirms the value of experiential learning. “Steel Wood University is a rigorous training program with an intense focus on management. It’s in line with the community college tradition of offering real-world, hands-on attainment of knowledge and skills.” He says the program capitalizes on the strengths of each partner, whose shared focus is the success of individual students and creating a workforce that’s prepared to tackle today’s business challenges, as well as the opportunities that will manifest themselves in the future.
Sean Cleary, president of Cleary Building Corp., which has 78 branch offices in 25 states and is celebrating its 38th anniversary this year, agrees. “This collaboration is an extension of the professional development of our management team. It provides a pathway for future career advancement for our employees.” He adds that the arrangement also will equip his employees with the training they need to make informed business decisions that will help his company maintain its position as an industry leader.
